Academics

Add/Drop and Withdraw courses

Add/Drop Courses

Usually the Add/Drop Period is the first 2 weeks of class. During this period you may attend the first day of class and decide if you would like to add or drop the course.

Please keep in mind that after this period you will not be able to add/drop any courses during the semester.

Withdraw course

Every semester you can withdraw only ONE COURSE, and it will be recorded in your transcript.

Changing Major, applying for minor or dual major

Changing Major

If you decide to become an NTU undergraduate international students or change your major, you have two channels through which you can apply for a transfer: "International Sophomore Entry" and "NTU Internal Transfer Application."

If NTU international students are unable to continue their studies in their original department due to conflicting interests, they can fill out the Special Request Form. After obtaining signatures and comments from the original department, the department they wish to transfer to, and the Office of International Affairs, they can submit the Special Request Form as a supplementary document when applying for transfer. With the approval of the department they wish to transfer to, they may be granted admission more flexibly.

Channel 1: International Sophomore Entry (Application period: around March)

Eligibility:
(1) Students who are qualified as international students according to the MOE’s “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan.”
(2) International students enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited university in Taiwan, who have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate studies before enrolling at NTU.
Or, students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a foreign university, who have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate studies before enrolling at NTU.

Notes:
(1) Students who have studied in Taiwan as overseas Chinese students cannot apply for transfer through this channel.
(2) Please check if the department you wish to transfer to is open for transfer applications.
(3) If admitted, students will enter the sophomore year.

Channel 2: Internal Transfer Application (Application period: early to mid-June)

Eligibility:
Students pursuing an undergraduate degree at NTU, who have completed at least one academic year of study and apply before the first semester of their final year of study (excluding the period of extended study duration), may apply for a transfer.

Before applying, please check the following information online:
(1) Is the department you wish to transfer to open for transfer applications?
(2) The transfer regulations of the original (transferring out) department.
(3) The transfer regulations of the department you wish to transfer to. (e.g., Does it require a hands-on test?)

Applying for Double Major and Direct-Entry Doctoral Degree program Application

Double Major:

Required course OEP Waiver (Exemption) Appication (undergraduates only)

All undergraduate students are required to take the OEP courses in order to fulfill the graduation requirements. However, if you meet the exemption criteria below, you can apply for exemption:

Students who have already passed the General English Proficiency Test administered by the university or have been granted exemption from the Freshman English courses need not apply for exemption from the OEP courses. For more information about how to waive Freshmen English, please refer to:

Required Course College Chinese & Freshmen English Waiver Application(Undergraduate Only)

You may take the Basic Subject Waivers Certification Exam (Freshman Chinese subject) held by NTU. For more information about the exam, please see: https://exam.aca.ntu.edu.tw/fcc/certificate.aspx\

Waive Freshmen English Procedure:

1. Students who meet one of the following requirements can apply for waiving Freshman English (and do not need to take the Online English Proficiency Test):

(1) have passed the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT) at the Higher-Intermediate level or above (both the preliminary test and the final test);
(2) have achieved a score of 83 or higher in the new Internet-based TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language);
(3) have achieved Level 6.5 or above in the IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System);
(4) have achieved Grade B or above in the FCE (First Certificate in English) or FCE for Schools;
(5) have achieved a score of 865 points or higher on the TOEIC (Test Of English for International Communication) Reading and Listening test, together with a score of 170 or higher on the TOEIC Speaking Test and a score of 165 or higher on the TOEIC Writing Test
(6) have achieved a score of 217 or above in the FLPT (Foreign Language Proficiency Test) English Reading and Listening Test, together with a Level S-2+ or above in the English Speaking Test and a level B or above in the English Writing Test;
(7) have achieved Level 8.5 or above in the TOEFL Essentials Test;
(8) have achieved Level 4 or above in the Advanced Placement (AP) English Language and Composition Exam or English Literature and Composition Exam;
(9) have primary and secondary graduate certificates or transcripts for at least five years. All documents should be from an English-speaking country as specified by NTU’s Office of International Affairs.(https://reurl.cc/553xV6 )
To apply, please submit a scanned copy of your test certificate or result slip with your application form (downloadable at: https://reurl.cc/VzNvo6) before the deadline to forex@ntu.edu.tw.
The list of qualified students will be announced on this website on the appointed date: https://reurl.cc/z1lagN.
Qualified students can waive Freshman English, obtain the required 6 English/Foreign Language credits, and waive the Online English Program without having to take the Online English Proficiency Test, BUT they should bring the original copy of their certificate or result slip to the DFLL Office for verification before the appointed date. Qualification for waiving English will otherwise be annulled.

2. If you do not have any of the Certificate above and would like to waive Freshman English, please take the Online English Proficiency Test. If the result of your Test is “Qualified to register for the Basic Subject Waivers Certification Exam”, you can take the Basic Subject Waivers Certification Exam (Freshman English subject) held by NTU. Documentation, Scholarships and Student Appeal

Registration/ Enrollment Certificate

You need to register every semester at NTU by paying the tuition and fees on time, usually due before the first day of class. Tuition fees vary depending on each college, the level of your degree, the year of your study, and your student status. Check the NTU Tuition & Fees Payment Invoice webpage for the total amount due. You can pay your tuition at any bank and ATMs, including the Postal Office Bank available on campus.

You may apply for a Certificate of Enrollment only after paying the tuition fee.

Work

Before Working apply for Work Permit

If you would like to engage in part-time jobs or internships in Taiwan (either on or off campus), you must obtain a valid work permit before starting work. Engaging in employment without a proper work permit may result in fines and could lead to immediate expulsion from Taiwan. Also, keep in mind that you can only work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session.

How to find an internship/part-time job?

There are internships and part-time opportunities on or off campus, including OIA’s own NTU International Mentorship Program and iNGO Academy.

NTU International Mentorship Program aims to facilitate connections between Taiwan and the global talent market while inspiring the leaders of tomorrow. Insurance

You are enrolled in the Group Medical Insurance (GMI) until you are eligible for the National Health Insurance. The GMI fee is collected along with your tuition and is not refundable.

After you meet residence requirements, we will help you to enroll in the National Health Insurance (NHI).Please upload the electronic File of your ARC in the International Degree Current Student System:

The NHI fee is also collected along with your tuition per semester. You may be required to transfer your NHI out of NTU in the event of a leave of absence, withdrawal, graduation, or transfer to a new school.

ARC Extension

You may be expelled from Taiwan if let your ARC expire. Take note of your ARC expiration date and apply for an ARC extension within 30 days of the expiration date.
