Welcome! Prepare for the journey ahead with guidance and resources
Congratulations again on your admission to NTU. Here are some important things to prepare for before coming to Taiwan.
You should obtain a visa to study in Taiwan. When applying for a visa, please bring your admission documents with you as you might need them. For detailed information, please refer to: Campus Life > Visa & ARC
If you hold a Mainland China Passport, you will need to enter Taiwan with an Entry Permit instead of a visa. Entry Permit information and procedures will be provided through email or you can contact the NTUOIA coordinator if you have any questions.
Entry and Military Service Procedures for Students Who Concurrently Hold R.O.C. Nationality and the Nationality of Another Country
If you are a male student with dual nationality—specifically, a national of the Republic of China (Taiwan) who has or has previously had household registration in Taiwan (possessing a National ID number)—and are of conscription age (19 to 36 years old), please follow the steps below to handle your entry and military service status.

Before coming to Taiwan, you are required to purchase insurance that covers your entire study period at NTU and provide proof of the insurance (in Chinese or English) during registration. Sufficient insurance constitutes one of the following:
1. Accident insurance worth a minimum of NTD 1,000,000 (approx. USD 34,000) and medical insurance worth a minimum of NTD 1,000,000 (approx. USD 34,000).
2. Valid Taiwan NHI card
Visit a certified hospital/clinic and ask a doctor to complete the health exam forms, NTU Health Exam Form and Form C, within 3 months prior to your registration date at NTU. Submit the original copies during registration.
Tip for those who are applying for the Resident Visa: complete the health exam form required for the visa application, Health Certificate for Residence Application, at the same time.
If you have difficulty doing the health exam before coming to Taiwan, you can do the health exam at selected hospitals (list) within 14 days after arriving in Taiwan. However, as it often takes around 10 work days to receive the health exam results, if you choose to do the health exam after coming to Taiwan, this may affect your registration process for your student ID card. Please ensure that you receive your health exam results before registration day.
You will be paired with an International Student Volunteer, who is a current NTU student. They should be able to help you with questions concerning course selection, myNTU, campus life and more.
Be sure to respond when you receive a welcome email from your student volunteer.
If you don’t hear from your student volunteer two weeks before classes begin, please contact your NTU exchange coordinator.
Exchange students must take 4 NTU credits or 2 courses per semester.
Course information for a particular semester is usually available about a month before the start of the semester. Until then, use course offering from previous years to help you find courses.
NTU course selection usually begins a month before the start of the semester. Check the University Calendar for the exact dates. The course selection process is generally divided into three periods, and you should try to register for the courses you want in the earlier periods whenever possible.
The courses selection procedure can be complicated, so it’s important you try to understand how course selection works well in advance. Don’t forget to ask your International Student Volunteer for help!
