We are proud to announce that two of our distinguished alumni, Mr. Cheng-Hsien Lee (current Deputy Speaker of the Pahang State Assembly in Malaysia) and Mr. Fernando Luis Ramirez Gonzalez (current Mayor of Pira City, Paraguay), have jointly won the prestigious “Outstanding Overseas Alumni Award” presented by the Ministry of Education this year.
Last week, both alumni returned to NTU to share their academic and professional journeys with their juniors. Prof. Hsiao-Wei Yuan, Vice President for International Affairs, expressed that the outstanding achievements of these two alumni not only bring honor to our university but also establish a positive international image for Taiwan’s higher education.
Recalling his time in Taiwan, Mr. Cheng-Hsien Lee shared that he was deeply attracted to Taiwan due to its free and open academic environment and diverse social atmosphere. During his studies at NTU, he laid a solid foundation in political theory. Upon returning to his home country, he actively engaged in politics, becoming one of the few Chinese members of parliament for minority groups and was elected Deputy Speaker of the Pahang State Assembly.
Mr. Fernando Ramirez shared that during his time at NTU, he specialized in international relations and gained a deep understanding of global political dynamics. After returning to his home country, he became the youngest mayor of Pira City, Paraguay, and applied his knowledge to city governance.
During this sharing session, both alumni interacted enthusiastically with their juniors, inspiring their passion for learning and their aspirations for future careers. Their stories are not only the best reward for their alma mater but also the best gift to their juniors, encouraging them to have a global perspective and contribute to the international community.
