Explore Taiwan through our short-term study options designed for international students who wish to spend a semester or a full year on our campus. Our non-degree programs allow you to earn NTU credits and gain international experience while remaining enrolled at your home university. You may apply through either our Exchange Student Program or our Visiting Student Program. There are some key differences between the two programs outlined in the comparison below.

GPA Requirement
Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Citizenship Requirement
This program is open to students with foreign or dual citizenship. Applicants with multiple citizenships are eligible to apply even if one of those citizenships is Taiwanese.
Exchange Student Program
Nomination by Home University
Students must be officially nominated by their home university before applying for the exchange program. Please consult your home university’s study abroad office to confirm the nomination process.
Visiting Student Program
Enrollment Requirements for Visiting Students
This program is only open to undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least one full semester at their home university by the time they apply. To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in an
institution included on the Ministry of Education, R.O.C. reference list:
Americas, Europe, Oceania, Asia, Africa
Mainland China
Hong Kong, Macao
Furthermore, all visiting students are required to remain as current enrolled students at their home university for the entire duration of their program at NTU.

Fees
Exchange students are exempt from tuition at NTU, but there are other fees that need to be paid.
Visiting students must pay the Application Fee (NTD15,000), Program Fee (NTD40,000) and Tuition Fee.
Other expenses, such as living costs and housing, are not included in the tuition and are the students’ responsibility.

Academic Calendar
First Semester (Fall Semester): Typically September to late December.
Second Semester (Spring Semester): Typically February to June.

Important: Welcome Activities are held one week before classes begin. All admitted students are required to attend the welcome activities in full. Absence from the welcome activities will result in the cancellation of your admission.
Program Duration
One academic year or two semesters is the maximum study period possible for exchange and visiting students.
Mainland Chinese students can only apply for one semester of study.
NTU requires exchange students to take at least 2 courses or 4 NTU credits per semester. Double check that you fulfill requirements for your home university as well.
Exchange and visiting students are allowed to take up to 25 NTU credits (for undergraduate) or 20 NTU credits (for graduate) per semester, unless otherwise specified by the academic department.

The following colleges and departments are currently not open to exchange and visiting students:
Department of Dentistry, International College, School of Political Science and Economics, D-School, and Center for General Education.
Courses at NTU
Course information for an upcoming semester is available from the month immediately before the semester starts; August for the First (Fall) Semester; January for the Second (Spring) Semester.

For questions regarding a specific field/course, please contact the department offering the course or the instructor directly.
Not all courses are available to exchange or visiting students. We recommend you check the “Limits on Course adding/dropping” column in NTU Course Information or ask the corresponding colleges and departments for course availability.
Chinese Courses

Scholarships are generally for degree students but the following scholarships might be available to exchange students:
The aforementioned MOFA scholarships are awarded to a limited number of students and the list of eligible universities may vary each semester. To be considered, students must be nominated by their home university. The Office of International Affairs will provide detailed information about the nomination process directly to the partner universities.
