Who Needs a Work Permit?

International students in Taiwan must obtain a valid work permit to work part-time or do internships, whether on or off campus. Working without a permit can result in fines ranging from NTD 30,000 to NTD 150,000 and immediate expulsion from Taiwan.

Work Hours Restrictions

During the semester: Maximum of 20 hours per week.
During summer and winter vacations: Unlimited hours.

Work Permit Validity

First semester applications: Valid until March 31 of the following year.
Second semester applications: Valid until September 30 of the same year.
Maximum validity: Six months.

Work Permit Application Process

Create an Account:

Prepare the Following Documents:

Photocopy of student ID card
Photocopy of passport
Photocopy of the ARC (front and back)
Post Office Work Permit Application fee (TWD 100) Payment Receipt (upload under “Others”)
Certificate of Enrollment
Consent Form for Work Permit Application for NTU International Students (download) stamped by your department.

Upload Documents in the System:

For the “Photocopy of student ID card” file, upload a photocopy of your student ID card together with a current “Certificate of Enrollment”.
For the “Others” file, upload the Post Office Work Permit Application fee (TWD 100) Payment Receipt and the Consent Form for Work Permit Application for NTU International Students (downlaod) stamped by your department.

Submit Application:

After submission, the review process usually takes about one week. You will be notified by email when your work permit is ready.

Reissuance of Work Permit

You can apply for a new work permit only if the original is lost.

Other Important Regulations

According to the Employment Services Act, you may be fined from NTD 30,000 to NTD 150,000 and expelled from Taiwan immediately if you hold a job without a valid work permit.
According to the “Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers,” you can only apply for a student work permit if you are enrolled as a degree student in a university or have taken a one-year language course in Taiwan.

Receiving the Work Permit

You may apply for the electronic file of the Work Permit. Once your application is reviewed, you may download the work permit online within one week.
If you did not download it, the Workforce Development Agency will send the hard copy to NTUOIA. OIA will inform you by email when they receive your work permit from the Workforce Development Agency.
If you would like to receive the work permit in person, please fill in the declaration form and submit it at the designated counter of the Workforce Development Agency. You must submit the payment receipt at the counter by the appointed deadline to receive the work permit. The Workforce Development Agency will send the permit by mail if you did not pick it up before the deadline.
